HENSON AND OMNILAB ANNOUNCE
"THE POWER OF THE DARK CRYSTAL"

In a joint announcement by Omnilab Media�s Christopher Mapp and The Jim Henson Company�s Lisa Henson, Australian based Omnilab Media is teaming up with The Jim Henson Company to bring the much anticipated fantasy sequel, �Power of the Dark Crystal� to the big screen in stereoscopic 3D. The highly anticipated film will be among the most ambitious projects to ever be produced in Australia. Peter Spierig and Michael Spierig, writers and directors of �Undead� and most recently, �Daybreakers,� have come aboard to direct the screenplay written by Australian Craig Pearce (�Moulin Rouge,� �Strictly Ballroom,� �Romeo + Juliet�) based on an original script by Annette Duffy and David Odell.

The legendary fantasy artist Brian Froud will reprise his role as conceptual designer of the film, which will use a stunning mix of live action and traditional puppetry combined with visual and special effects produced entirely in Australia. Omnilab-affiliated Iloura (�Where the Wild Things Are,� �The Pacific,� �Don�t Be Afraid of the Dark�) has already begun work on the film�s complex CGI elements. WENDY FROUD SUMMER DOLLMAKING WORKSHOP!
Petaluma, California July 16th - 18th 2010

Wendy is returning to the USA this summer and is offering a special 3-day creature sculpting workshop in Petaluma, California on July 16-18, 2010.

Three days will allow us to come near completing a fantastical creature. Day One will include connecting to your faerie guide, building an armature and sculpting the head. Day Two will include constructing the body and sculpting the hands and feet. Day Three will include painting, the application of hair and fur and final costuming. Each day we will be working from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with an hour for lunch.

The cost is $585.00 which includes polymer clay, armature wire and a selection of materials for hair, fur and costumes. Participants will need to bring basic tools and craft supplies. If you are interested in attending, please email sherri@imaginosis.com.

WOODLAND LIMITED EDITION ALBUM WITH BRIAN FROUD COVER ART & SUMMER UK CONCERTS ANNOUNCED

Woodland has announced two major concert dates in England this summer: 3 Wishes Faerie Festival in Cornwall on June 19th and 20th to be followed by Woodland's return to London for the Urban Faerie ball in Kensington on June 25th. Both events will include live collaborations with ethereal-gothic singer and songwriter, Priscilla Hernandez from Barcelona, Spain. As Christmas and New Years approach, it's hard to believe that this is the end of a decade: and what a decade it was!

We hope the New Year will bring a fresh start to each of you and the world, especially in our commitment to preserving the health of our dear planet. There is no better nor important time for us to deepen our relationship with the revitalizing energy and spirit of faerie that is all around us.

In Spring 2010, we will see a new book and card set from Brian & Wendy Froud, THE HEART OF FAERIE ORACLE, the long awaited sequel to Brian's international best-selling, THE FAERIES' ORACLE. This summer we will be announcing new graphic novels created by Brian and another new book for the Fall.

It's been another great year of Froudian creativity. In the past years we have enjoyed seeing the the appearance of new media like digital and photographic works as well as the huge increase in 3D pieces like dolls and faerie houses and furniture. This year, our 2D category had the least number of entries; we encourage artists to continue to explore the wonderful possibilities in the traditional media of drawing, watercolor and painting. We also welcome submissions by anyone working in the fiber arts and fashion medias. Clearly, faerie apparel is a big hit at Faerieworlds and FaerieCon and we see that Steampunk is now crossing over into the faerie realm too. So the doors of fantasy possibility for the new decade are thrown open and we look forward to seeing all of your magical creations in 2010. For the year 2009, it was a tough time whittling our best of choices down to the few Froudians highlighted. Here's our choice for the Best of 2009 Froudians!

WENDY FROUD'S TRIBUTE TO ROBERT HOLDSTOCK

A few days ago Robert Holdstock passed from this world into the next. Unexpectedly and far, far too soon, this amazing man finished his time here among us, leaving behind some of the greatest fantasy fiction ever written.

For twenty five years I have journeyed with Rob�s characters through Ryhope Wood (Mythago Wood once you enter it), the forest of Brociliande, mythic rivers, ancient civilisations and secret pathways leading to Otherworlds that exist a blink and shadow�s breadth away from our own mundane world. Brian and I have walked with Rob and his wonderful partner Sarah over Dartmoor, climbed tors and threaded our way through stunted oak forests, drunk too much wine and beer, eaten Green Man pie and laughed and marvelled at how strange and enchanting life could be. Rob and Sarah brightened our lives, and Brian and I were always delighted to meet up with them and share experiences and tales of travels and observations of the weird and wonderful.

For many years now, whenever Brian and I walk in a forest, be it on Dartmoor or somewhere else on our travels, we are bound to have what we call a � Holdstock Moment�. Anything strange, anything that smells of loam and leaf mould, anything that looks vaguely mythic, tribal or otherworldly and most of all, anything of beauty has become, in our vocabulary, a �Holdstock Moment�. Rob could make imagined sensory experiences come to life with a few well chosen words. I �know� what it feels like to live in the worlds he brought to life. I �know� how it feels to pass from Realm to Realm, from one culture to another and to step back a thousand years or so with the turn of a page. I cherish those experiences and am more grateful than I can say to have known this man and to have had the pleasure of sharing his world through his writing as well as at the dinner table.

We shall miss him, Brian and I, but we will continue to have �Holdstock Moments� as long as we can experience beauty and strangeness in this world, and some day we may join Rob on a new adventure in one of those other worlds that for the moment we can only see from the corner of our eye. So until then, fare well Rob and may your journey be blessed.

AUTUMN GREETINGS FROM WENDY FROUD!

Writing again after such a long absence is always daunting to me. Where to begin. What to tell. So much has occurred in the past eight months and I apologise for not writing about things as they happened but it was rather like being caught up in an endless dance, sometimes slow and stately, sometimes frantic and whirling, that led me on and on without respite until ending somewhat abruptly, leaving me exhausted. Luckily, I wasn't wearing red shoes or iron shoes and my feet are still attached and even beginning to tap in time to the music again. There - I've begun.

These months have been focused mainly on the wedding celebrations of Toby and Sarah. Sherri (Sarah's mother) and I had two celebrations to prepare for between us - the wedding itself at the Morgan's home in Portola California in July and the Faery Blessing at our home in Devon in September. Now, children raised in magical surroundings expect magical things to happen at special events and we did our very best, with the help and inestimable support of our indomitable husbands Kevin Morgan and Brian Froud to give Toby and Sarah two magical and memorable celebrations. And we did. Toby and Sarah are twice blessed (actually thrice blessed since we had another very magical celebration in Michigan at my mother's home before we left for England) and now it is up to them to take those blessings, Faery and Mortal, and create a magical life for themselves. I know they will do just that with grace and creativity and humour (that most important element in a lasting relationship). I know that almost everyone in the world except Brian and me are on Facebook so you've probably seen photos of the celebrations already but I'll add a couple to this as well for the few of us left who have only begun to master the arcane workings of the world wide web!....

Brian and I are truly in need of quiet time at the moment. We want to reengage with our own creativity and start thinking about what we want to do next. This is the beginning (or at least it feels like it) of a new phase for us. Having said that, we're both quite busy already with Brian working on a new book and me catching up on commissions I've neglected for far too long. Needing quiet time does mean that we'll not be coming to FaerieCon this year. We just don't have the stamina for it at the moment. I know it's going to be great this year - a new venue and a much more intimate space all contained in the same hotel complex. We'll be there in spirit. I'd look for Brian's spirit in the hotel bar - he's bound to be sitting there. We truly hope to be a big part of it next year so don't give up on us yet please!....

In response to popular demand at sell out events, Wendy is back in the US for a series of doll making workshops. Several have already sold out but a few seats have opened in Wendy Froud's Burbank workshop! The class size is limited to 12 and is taught by both Wendy and her son Toby. The is a unique opportunity for a very special three day experience.

Three Day Sculpting Workshop: March 6 - 8 2009
Three days will allow us to come near completing a fairy or other fantastical creature. Day One will include connecting to your faerie guide, building an armature and sculpting the head, hands and feet. Day Two will include constructing the body. Day Three will include final costuming, the application of hair and fabrication of wings. Each day will be working from 10:00AM to 5:00PM with an hour off for lunch from 1:00PM - 2:00PM. Cost is $585.00 and includes polymer clay, armature wire and a selection of materials for hair, wing and costumes. Workshop is located at the Residence Inn, Burbank California: Downtown location. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM WENDY FROUD!

"Happy New Year! I think this is going to be a year of good and exciting changes for many of us. Brian and I are looking forward to the coming year for many reasons. One that is particularly exciting for us is that Toby is going to marry his sweetheart Sarah in July! It's going to be a summer of wedding parties since Sarah is American and they will wed in California in July and then have a blessing over here in September as well. We may have parties in other places too. Both families are beginning the fun but serious work of creating magic for all of the events. We are expecting help from the faeries. I do hope they'll be on their best behaviour but you never can tell. I'm sure we're in for a few surprises! Sarah is the daughter of my friend and workshop coordinator Sherri Morgan so we'll all be working on this together. Luckily Sherri is a magnificent organiser!

Speaking of workshops and organising, I'm going to be giving workshops in the states again this February and March. I'm giving a three day workshop in Reno, Nevada February 20th - 22nd and in Burbank, California from March 6th - 8th. Toby (and maybe Sarah too) will be along to co-teach with me and Sherri will be there to see that everything runs the way it should. We always have fun and the pieces that the students create are just wonderful and incredibly creative. It becomes a learning experience for all of us and hopefully I become a better teacher every time I give a new workshop. I certainly enjoy it more every time do it. My new DVD is out now as well and I'll be able to answer questions about that and incorporate parts of it into the workshops as well. If you would like to join us or want more information please look on the web site - it's all there. I AM coming back to New York. I just can't do it on this trip but I'll be back either in the summer or the autumn.

So - it's going to be a busy year for us. Brian and I are guests of Honour at the DABIDA Day doll show in Holland on April 5th and then guests of honour at the Trolls and Legends convention in Brussels the following weekend. We'll have more news about those events later. It's always so nice to be involved in events in Europe as well as the U.S.

This is just a quick message. I really wanted to share our exciting news with everyone. We'll keep you up to date on what's happening and be sure to tell you about the faeries participation in all of the coming events. I'm sure there will be tales to tell. They have been extremely mischievous in our house over the past week or so. They're driving Brian crazy! I think it's fine. It keeps him on his toes! That's all for now but I'll be back soon. Until then, we wish you all a magical new year."

Wendy Froud will be in the USA for a brief teaching tour in February and March 2009. She also anticipates another tour in the fall with a focus in the eastern/Midwestern USA.

NEW WENDY FROUD MESSAGE!

Excerpt: "It's been a strange year - a learning experience that I hadn't in any way anticipated.... I taught more workshops than ever and loved every minute of them. I'm planning on teaching many more this coming year as well. They feed my soul. I love to see the people in my classes creating something that, in many cases they had no idea that they could create.... I also recorded a new DVD on character sculpting. It is come out soon (even I don't have a copy of it yet!) and you can pre-order it here on the website. I do hope that it will inspire and help people to take their sculpting and doll making ever further than before.... Brian has had his share ofdistressing times this year. He was unable to attend FaerieCon becauseof a torn retina. Very scary for him (and for all of us) but he isfeeling much better now and hopeful it has healed itself. He is workingon new projects that will appear in the coming year. We'll be able totell you more about them in the New Year but they're going to be quiteamazing!"

WENDY FROUD'S workshops sell out and NEW DVD coming this fall!

Wendy's national doll making workshop tour was a great success. All the workshops sold out and all attendees were thrilled to work so closely with Wendy and Toby in creating their own faerie dolls. Wendy really enjoyed the experience and will surely be returning to the US again next year for her Spring workshops. We are in the midst of planning some very special workshops and presentations with Brian, Wendy and Toby for this summer and fall so please watch this site for upcoming announcements.

When Wendy was in Los Angeles in May for her workshops there, she also filmed her next doll making DVD for the Gnomon Workshop which will feature how to make fantasy figures. The DVD will be released this fall; please watch the site for the release date.

"When Candace Savage approached me about collaborating on a line of Froud Faery clothing, I wanted to try something that I felt hadn't been done before, or at least not in the way I wanted to approach it. Candace has been making beautiful, romantic clothing for women with her company Gypsy Moon, for years. Candace believes in the romance of clothes. I believe that faeries are basically romantic whether in their familiar, woodland surroundings or in their more surprising urban guises. Candace and I decided that we wanted to create a line of clothing that would allow women to "feel like a faery" for as long as they wished to. Internationally acclaimed fantasy and faerie artist and author Tom Cross ("The Faerie Garden,"The Way of Wizards") was never a smoker but was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2004 and given a year to live. Still alive and prevailing today, Tom's valiant fight has inspired thousands and he continues to work to shine much needed light on this disease that is affecting "never smokers" and young people at an alarming rate.

The darkwave band Qntal will be returning to Philadelphia for their second US performance in their career at the Bad Faeries Ball on Saturday October 13th. Qntal consists of two musicians classically trained at the Salzburg Mozarteum and a gifted electronic music composer. In their quieter moments, they convey an otherworldly vibe not unlike Dead Can Dance and Lisa Gerrard's work, while their more energetic tracks are akin to Delerium. Brian Froud's art was featured on Qntal's latest CD, "Silver Swan" and well as a video created by Brian and Toby Froud for the song, "Von Den Elben" which will be open the show on Saturday night. "... Here in our Autumn house, we are busily getting ready for our next trip to the states. FaerieCon is fast approaching and we've still got loads to do before we're ready to leave for Philadelphia. This is going to be a very busy season for us. Brian has book signings in London and New York , then on to FaerieCon and after that we're off to Lucca (Lucca Comics and Games) where Brian has designed the poster art for this year's convention. Toby Froud and The Scissor Sisters!

Wendy Froud's May Greeting!

"Spring isn't only springing here, it's leaping and bounding and running rampant through the fields and gardens, spilling into the lanes and generally acting like it might turn in to Summer at any moment. Toby and I have been away in the states for just about the whole month of April and it was such a surprise to come home to Spring springing all at once. We travelled across America from New York to California with a stop in Michigan and everywhere except LA we had LOTS of unexpected snow. It was sort of fun to wake up in Michigan and have something very much like a second Christmas. Of course as soon as we left the snow melted, the sun came out and the flowers resumed their blooming..."

However, I can tell you that 2007 will be even better: Faerieworlds returns in July bigger, better and more magical than ever, Faerie Con will premiere for the first time in October (we have so much exciting news to share with you- stay tuned!), amazing one-of-a-kind original Brian & Wendy art will continue to be offered on our E-Bay store, a long awaited new faerie book by Brian will be published next Fall, a very different and very personal new Lady Cottington project will be announced by the Cottington Archive, we will announce the launch of a major toy licensing program with one of the most famous toy stores in the world and two - yes, two - new movie projects will be announced. THE VAMPIRE RABBITS OF LUCCA

As a special treat for all Froudians during the Holidays, we are happy to present, THE VAMPIRE RABBITS OF LUCCA, a short animated film made this year at Lucca Comics and Games. The film began as a joke, but the wonderful "why not? Let's DO IT!" spirit of our dear Italian friends swept us up in a rush of creativity. Led by Wendy's story and her delightful sculptures, with contributions from Brian Froud, Alan Lee and Robert Gould, the Italian "Production Team" created this video from scratch in less that two days. It was really great fun to do and we are happy to share it with you now - even if it is in Italian! - with an introduction by our dear friend, Cosimo. Our thanks to all at Lucca Games for another wonderful visit; we celebrate your love of art and your inspiring passion for creativity!

In this two-disc DVD workshop, and the first for the artist, Wendy Froud explains and demonstrates how to create a faery figure. She begins with a guided visualization to help you access your imagination for unique designs. Wendy then shows how to properly build the armature and prepare the polymer clay, anticipating the various problems that may occur further into the process. From there, she sculpts the head, upper torso, hands and feet, determining the figure�s proportions and gesture and explaining how to quickly add facial details with an array of tools. Next, Wendy shows how to fabricate the body and she shares her process for choosing materials for the costume and hair. A SPECIAL UPDATE REGARDING THE SHIPPING OF:
"THE ART OF WENDY FROUD" FROM IMAGINOSIS

We write to you now to give you an update on Wendy's new book, THE ART OF WENDY FROUD that you have ordered from Imaginosis. As you may know, we announced the book in July with a Special Pre-publication Offer on the World of Froud website. Many of you ordered the book at that time and over recent weeks. As Wendy and Brian were returning to Comic-con and Faerieworlds are a one year absence, we have several hundred advance copies printed and bound so that Wendy could premiere the book at these shows.

The response to these advance copies of THE ART OF WENDY FROUD was exceptional. Fans, professionals, dealers and the general public all loved the book, some calling it one of the most beautiful fantasy art books ever made. In the following weeks, the official run of the first edition were printed and after some unavoidable delays we disclosed on our website, the first samples arrived at Imaginosis in Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, the book contained errors in color fidelity that I (Robert) determined not to be acceptable to the high level of quality we require at Imaginosis and are dedicated to deliver to our customers. The book was immediately reprinted by our understanding printer in Hong Kong, successfully correcting the errors and is now en route by boat to Los Angeles. It will arrive at the LA port on October 23 and will be in our warehouse later that week. Orders will begin shipping the week of November 13 when I return from the Lucca Comics and Games Convention in Italy with Brian and Wendy. We will receive a small advance shipment of about 80 to 100 books via air before the land shipment arrives. We will begin shipping these books next week to those who ordered earliest. We expect all current orders to be filled by the end of November.

Here is a personal word from Wendy Froud about her new book:

"I sincerely thank all of you who have been waiting so patiently for my first book. We apologize for the delays but it is so important to Robert and me that the book reproduces my work in the best possible manner. I have seen the latest printing and the book itself looks wonderful. I didn't think you could get any more depth in the photos but I can clearly see the difference; they sort of jump off the page now! It's so worth the time and wait for me and I hope it will be so for you too. Thanks you do much for supporting me and my book: it really means a lot to me." - Wendy

BRIAN FROUD TO ILLUSTRATE "PETER PAN IN SCARLET"

Brian Froud has been selected to be the illustrator for the Peter Pan sequel, Peter Pan in Scarlet by Geraldine McCraughrean (Oxford University Press / Simon & Schuster/McElderry). Brian will supply the cover art and interior black and white illustrations. The book will be printed in 23 languages and the initial print run will be 250,000 copies, for a worldwide publication date of Oct. 5th, 2006.

As Froudians know, this a major departure for Brian, who has not illustrated a book not his own for many years. But the opportunity to interpret arguably the most famous faery character of all time proved irresistible. In addition to this, what truly won Brian over was the exceptional story created by Geraldine McCraughrean, who captured the singular tone of JM Barrie’s original while imbuing a modern sensibility to the tale.
